Mount the Vicon IR lights around the volume, pointing each light towards the area to be illuminated.

> ✅ **Number of lights**  
> ✅ We recommend that, whatever the size of your capture area, to ensure even illumination, you use 8 lights.   
> ✅ For 30–90 Hz tracking, reduce the brightness of the lights to 45%; for rates 90–120 Hz, use the maximum brightness of 90% and increase the shutter duration. For information on how to set the brightness, see [*Set the brightness of the Vicon IR lights*](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/markerless/pages/261718324).

Ensure the lights are evenly distributed around the volume, with a light on either side of the volume corners.

Adjust the vertical position of each light to ensure the full field of view is illuminated.

> ⚠️ **Caution**  
> ⚠️ To avoid overexposure when a subject is close to the camera, do not mount the the Vicon IR lights close to the Vicon Vanguard cameras.

Vicon IR lights are supplied with a mounting bracket at the bottom of the unit, incorporating a ¼” UNC-20 fitting. Mounting brackets for this fitting may be purchased separately.  

Fix the Vicon IR lights to a wall, pole or camera mount and/or bracket, using a ¼” UNC 20 bolt.

> ⚠️ IR Light (850nm)  
> ⚠️ EN62471 Risk Group 0 (Exempt). This product emits infrared light. Do not stare directly at the source when in operation.

> ❌ **Warning**  
> ❌ To prevent the lights from falling and injuring people or damaging equipment, we recommend that you tether them to their mounts with safety bonds (see [Tether the Vicon IR lights](#TetherLights)).

## Tether the Vicon IR lights

We recommend that you tether the lights securely to their mounts by passing a tether around the mounting bracket, as shown in the following image (tether highlighted in blue).

> ℹ️ Vicon IR lights may be mounted below the rail or (as shown in the image), above it, depending on your requirements, the height of the volume, etc.
