To ensure the security of your systems and data, follow these guidelines when installing and using Vicon software:

- Make sure Vicon software is used on a suitably secured PC only, either standalone or within a trusted local network with an appropriate firewall to any untrusted external networks such as the internet.
- Do not use the software to open files from untrusted sources.
- Following installation, the software does not require, and must not be run with, administrator privileges.
- Note that Vicon software does not encrypt data captured with, or otherwise stored or accessed via, the software. It is your responsibility as the user of the software to provide appropriate security for such data.

Failure to follow these guidelines may put the security of your systems and/or data at risk.

> ✅ **Network license server installation**
> ✅ If you are setting up a network license server and do not want to install Vicon Nexus on that machine, use the separate Vicon Product Licensing installer to install only the license manager. For more information, see [Set up a network license server](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/Nexus220/pages/897712529).

**To install Vicon Nexus:**

1. Visit the Vicon [Nexus page](https://www.vicon.com/software/nexus/) on the Vicon website.
2. On the **Nexus** page, click **Download** to download the Vicon Nexus 2.# software installer.
3. In Windows Explorer, extract the file you downloaded to a folder to which you have full access.
:check_mark: To do this you typically right-click the file and select **Extract All** (the procedure may vary slightly, depending on your PC configuration).
4. Go to the folder to which you extracted the installer in the previous step and double-click *Vicon_Nexus_Setup.exe*.
5. On the **Welcome** page, click **Next**.
6. On the **End-User License Agreement** page, read and accept the terms, then click **Next**.
7. On the **Custom Setup** page, ensure that the required features are selected and click **Next**.
8. On the **Ready to install** page, click **Install** to begin installation.
9. On the final wizard page, click **Finish**.
10. Enter the required information into the subsequent dialog boxes until the installation is complete.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️ If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Nexus, note that on initial startup, Nexus 2 automatically scans for Nexus 1.# files, displays a list of any older files that it finds, and provides an automated system for importing these into Nexus 2. This process copies all the old files and converts the copies, ensuring that original files are not moved, altered, or destroyed.

## Next steps

After you have installed Vicon Nexus, ensure you complete the following steps.

1. Configure the network card (see [Configuring network card settings](https://help.vicon.com/space/Connect/1614840/Configuring+network+card+settings) and the following Vicon video).
:info: **Note**: Normally, you need to do this only the **first time** Nexus is installed so if you have used an earlier release of Nexus with the current network card, you can go straight to the next step.
2. Configure the firewall (see [Check firewall and anti-virus software](https://help.vicon.com/space/Connect/1607823/Configuring+network+card+settings+in+Windows+11#Check-firewall-and-anti-virus-software) and the following Vicon video). You need to do this **each time** you upgrade to a new release of Nexus 2.#.
3. Configure the graphics card (see [Set up your NVIDIA graphics card for use with Nexus](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/Nexus220/pages/897712261) in *What’s new in Vicon Nexus *and the following Vicon video). You need to do this **each time** you upgrade to a new release of Nexus 2.#.

> ℹ️ **Minor releases**
> ℹ️ If you are upgrading to a point release of Nexus 2.# (that is, Nexus 2.#.#), you can normally omit the above steps.
