In the Capture.U app 1.4.1 or later, you can hibernate any sensor that is currently connected via Bluetooth<sup>®</sup>.

Hibernating a sensor places it into 'ship' mode, which effectively turns off the current to the sensor to help prolong its charge while not in use. This helps to:

- Promote a healthier battery by limiting the time a sensor is at 0% charge
- Prolong the battery life by reducing the number of charge cycles required to fulfill the above

> ℹ️ **Note**  
> ℹ️ While in hibernation mode, a sensor only needs to be charged every six months, depending on the battery health.

## Place sensors in hibernation mode

To place a sensor in hibernation:

1. Ensure the sensor is currently connected to your iOS device.  
:warning:** Note**: You cannot place a sensor in hibernation mode while it is actively collecting data.
2. On the home page of the Capture.U app, tap the Settings icon (bottom right of the screen).
3. On the Settings screen, tap **Hibernate sensors.**
4. In the Hibernate list, select all sensors you wish to hibernate.  
If required, activate **Enable Tap to Select**.
5. At the bottom of the screen, tap **Hibernate Selected**.
  The sensor is removed from the whitelist of any iOS device until it is removed from hibernation.

> ℹ️ **Note**  
> ℹ️ Placing a sensor in hibernation mode does not affect the data on the sensor.

## Remove sensors from hibernation

To remove a sensor from hibernation, cradle the sensor and plug the USB cable into a power source.

After a brief pause, both LEDs indicate that it is charging (see [Understand Vicon IMU sensor status](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IMU/pages/73142668)).

> ⚠️ **Important**  
> ⚠️ If you placed your sensor in hibernation mode with the sensor cradled, remove the cable from its power source and re-plug it back in.
