During camera calibration, after you have masked any reflections, you calibrate the cameras by waving a wand (the reference device for calibrating the system) throughout the volume to enable the cameras to capture movements over the whole area.

> ℹ️ **Vicon Active Wand documentation**
> ℹ️ Active Wand is Vicon’s electronic reference device for mapping cameras accurately in a motion capture system. For detailed information about setting up and using Active Wand, see [Active wand documentation](https://help.vicon.com/space/ActiveWandDoc/).

**To perform a wand wave:**

1. Make sure the Active Wand is in the correct mode:
  - For Viper/Viper X cameras, use **Continuous** mode.
  - For all other cameras, use **Strobe** mode.
For more information, see [Use Active Wand](https://help.vicon.com/space/ActiveWandDoc/339345815/Use+Active+Wand).
2. In Evoke, ensure you have completed the steps in [Mask cameras](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/Evoke18/pages/397968941).
3. In the **Camera Calibration **panel, go to the **Wand Wave** section and select the calibration object to use for the camera calibration process (by default, this is Active Wand v2).
:info: **Note**: You cannot use (or import) VSKs supplied with or created with Active Wand (dual-sided), into versions of Evoke earlier than 1.8.
4. Click **Wave All**.
The button displays **Stop** and the menu bar changes color and displays the text **Camera Calibration Active**.
5. Have someone wave the wand throughout the capture volume, covering depth as well as height, while you watch the **Cameras** views for all cameras to ensure you get full coverage. Ensure that the markers (LEDs) on the wand remain visible to all the cameras as much as possible while the wand is moved throughout the volume.
As an indication of the age of the wand detection, to help you see where the wand is being waved and getting detections, the display in the each view changes from orange to blue.
In the **Camera Calibration** panel, notice that the **Wand Count** column changes from red to green as sufficient data per camera is captured. This helps you concentrate on waving the wand for cameras that need more data.
:check_mark: **Tip**: By default, camera calibration stops automatically when each camera has seen enough of the wand to ensure calibration. To adjust this or turn it off, in the **Camera Calibration** panel, under **Wand Wave**, ensure advanced parameters are displayed > Macro (inline-media-image)

. To adjust the amount of data needed before the camera calibration stops, change the value of ** Auto Stop Minimum Frames**. To turn off the automatic stop, clear the **Auto Stop** check box. If you do this, the **Wand Count** column does not change color, and you must estimate when enough data has been captured.
6. After the wand wave stops, the ** Image Error ** column displays values and grades each camera’s status from red (poor) to green (excellent), depending on how well the camera connects centroids to the wand markers.
In the volume, the status lights on the Viper cameras turn magenta and blink during calibration, turning green and then blue when fully calibrated.

After the wand wave, the cameras are calibrated relative to each other. The next step is to set the volume origin (see [Set up the volume](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/Evoke18/pages/397968985)).
