After you have set up the necessary hardware, to set up the software for Active Crown, start Vicon Shogun Live and complete the following steps.

> Macro (toc)

> Macro (scroll-pagebreak)

## Check system calibration

Ensure the relevant video camera has been calibrated, the Active Crown is securely attached to the cameras and the Active Crown is plugged in, as described in [Set up Vicon Active Crown hardware](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ActiveCrownDocs/pages/299926199).

## Place Active Crown in the volume

Place the Active Crown where it is visible by all the Vicon cameras (or as many as possible), so that the object has maximum coverage when it's created in Shogun Live. This is usually in the center of the volume.

## Create a prop for Active Crown

1. In the **3D View** in Shogun Live, ensure that all the markers for the stalks are visible and then select them.
:warning: **Important**: Before you create the crown object, make sure that *all* the markers for the Active Crown are visible and that you select all of them.
2. In the **Tracking** panel, click the **Setup** tab.
3. In the **Object** section, go to the **Prop** field, enter a name for the Active Crown and click **Create.**
:check_mark:** Tip**: Ensure the name you give to the Active Crown is easily recognizable and unique.
An Active Crown object is created from the selected markers and is displayed in the 3D View. An Active Crown node is displayed in the Tracking panel.
The Active Crown's .*vsk* file is saved to the location specified in **Preferences** > **User Preferences** > **Folders** > **Props**.

> ✅ **Tip**
> ✅ To check that the Active Crown is initialized even when some LEDs are hidden from the cameras, use an Object Preset with Entrance Threshold set to 0.5 (50%). For more information, see [Set Active Crown to use ObjectTracker with an Object Preset](#SetToObjectTracker).

## Set Active Crown to use ObjectTracker with an Object Preset

After you've created an object for Active Crown, set it to use the Object Tracker and an Object Preset as follows:

1. In the **Tracking** panel, ensure the Active Crown is selected and on its **Properties** tab, display the Advanced properties > Macro (inline-media-image)

and ensure **Track with ObjectTracker** is selected.
At the top of the Tracking panel, an icon is displayed to the right of the Active Crown object's name, to indicate that object tracking is now being used for the Active Crown.
2. To start adding a new object preset, to the right of the **Object Preset** field, click **Manage**.
3. In the **Object Presets** dialog box, enter a name for the new preset and click **Add**.
4. With the new preset selected at the top of the dialog box, set the **Entrance Threshold** to 0.5 (50%), make any changes required to the other settings and close the dialog box.
:info:** Note**: By default a new preset does not have filtering enabled.
5. To apply the object preset, make sure the Active Crown object is still selected in the **Tracking** panel and on the **Properties** tab below, from the **Object Preset** list, select the new preset you just created.
The tracking and/or filtering properties specified in the preset are applied to the Active Crown object.
As you have lowered the entrance threshold for the cameras to detect the LEDs on the Active Crown, it now boots even if some LEDs are occluded.

## Link Active Crown to camera

1. Ensure you have calibrated your video camera as described in *[Setting up video cameras for Vicon Shogun Live](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ShogunLive121/pages/1253212276)*.
2. In Shogun Live, in either the **Workspace** or the **System** tree, select the Active Crown that you just added.
3. Ctrl-click to also select the calibrated video camera.
4. In the **Tracking ** panel, on the **Setup** tab under **Video Camera Tracking**, click **Link Camera**.
The button text changes to display identifying information for the linked camera and the bone for the Active Crown moves to the video camera's optical center (the front of the camera lens's position), aligned with the video camera's coordinate system.
You can now move the camera while maintaining the 3D overlay, and you can see the camera moving in the 3D View and Cameras view.

The calibrated SDI camera's transforms now update with the tracked Active Crown.
