To set up the Vicon Active Crown, ensure you have calibrated the system, then attach the base of the Active Crown to its required location and connect the supplied stalks.

> ❌ **Eye safety**  
> ❌ Do not look directly at the Infrared LED source at the end of the Active Crown stalks when they are in use.

To set up the Vicon Active Crown hardware, complete the following steps:

## Calibrate your Vicon Shogun system

Ensure you have calibrated your Vicon Shogun system, including the relevant video camera as described in *[Setting up video cameras for Vicon Shogun Live](https://vicon-help.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ShogunLive121/pages/1253212276)*.

> ✅ **Tip**   
> ✅ When setting up your system, you may obtain best results with camera apertures closed to minimize 'blooming' of LEDs in the camera views.

## Mount Active Crown on a camera

For security, use a suitable mounting plate and screws to attach the base securely to the video camera. It may be attached at the top or, if necessary, the side of the camera but it must be attached securely.

Active Crown has the following threads:

- 2 x ¼" - 20 UNC thread
- 1 x ⅜" - 16 UNC thread

## Attach Active Crown stalks

Your Active Crown is supplied with 6 stalks in total. These are:

- 3 x short length (80 mm)
- 1 x medium length (159 mm)
- 2 x long length (179 mm)

Attach the stalks to the base in the required configuration. To do this, position each stalk over the relevant socket.

The stalks snap into place using magnetic connectors.

Although the Active Crown works with any number of stalks attached, we recommend that you use all 6 stalks to get the best tracking data quality.

As the base has 7 sockets but only 6 stalks are provided, one socket is left empty. You can cover this empty socket with one of the supplied socket covers.

> ✅ **Optimum configuration**  
> ✅ You can attach the stalks to the Active Crown base in any configuration you want, based on the space available and any other restrictions that apply to your requirements. However, some configurations may reduce the maximum tracking distance, or introduce a small amount of noise to the tracking data. ## Add power to Active Crown

Plug one end of the supplied USB cable into the Active Crown and plug the other end into a powered USB port (the Active Crown's power requirements are DC 5V @ 3A).

> ⚠️ **Caution**  
> ⚠️ We recommend that you use the supplied cable to connect the Active Crown to the powered USB port.   
> ⚠️ The Active Crown's power requirements are DC 5V @ 3A. To avoid possible damage to your equipment, ensure that any adapter you use complies with this requirement.
